Answering Some of your Questions
Our top priority is to respond to our client’s inquiries. That is why, in this section, we will attempt to answer some of your questions.
We understand that when a patient is referred to an Endodontist, he or she usually has a lot of questions that cause unnecessary anxiety. That is why we do not hesitate to assist them in answering those questions.
If you have any questions or concerns about your procedure, you may contact Dr. Lester Reid and any of our friendly and knowledgeable staff at (860) 583-8379 or by filling out the Contact Form below. We keep regular business hours Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., but our phones are always answered in case of emergency.
The American Dental Association recognizes Endodontics as a dental specialty. It entails treating your tooth’s “pulp” (also known as the root canal) as well as the surrounding tissue.
Your tooth is divided into several sections. The portion of your tooth visible in the mirror is the crown. The “root” refers to the portion of your tooth that is hidden beneath the gum line. This is the section on which we will concentrate. Though the outer layer of your root is composed of hard tissue known as dentin, the inner layer (your root canal) is composed of soft tissue, blood vessels, and nerves.
Tooth decay, periodontal disease, and tooth fracture can all introduce bacteria into your pulp, causing damage and pain. If this occurs, an Endodontics Specialist will remove the damaged portion of your pulp to prevent further damage. After a successful treatment, your tooth will be able to function normally once more.
No! X-rays will be required during your Endodontics Treatment, but we use an advanced digital radiography machine at Bristol Endodontics. This machine emits radiation levels that are 90% lower than those produced by most current dental x-ray machines.
These digital x-ray images can be optimized, archived, and printed, or they can be emailed directly to your dentist.
At Bristol Endodontics, we adhere to the most rigorous standards of infection control advocated by OSHA, the Centers for Disease Control, and the American Dental Association. We use autoclave sterilization to properly clean our instruments, and we use barrier techniques to eliminate any risk of infection to you.
If an infection does occur, it can usually be taken care of by placing you on an antibiotic for one week.
After your Root Canal Treatment is complete, we will send a record of your treatment to your General Dentist. Within a few weeks of your treatment, you should contact their office for a follow-up restoration procedure. This restoration is necessary to ensure the continued protection of your tooth, and your general dentist will decide what type of restoration is best for you.
Most likely, you will not experience complications after your routine Endodontics treatment or microsurgery. However, if a problem does occur, we are available at all times to respond.
More information on post-surgery treatment can be found here.
